Leverhulme Park

After meeting Joseph Holt at the Railway Bowling Club I headed over to Leverhulme Park to photograph activities at the five-a-side pitches and the athletics stadium. However – there was no activity, not a sports person in sight! It was a gorgeous day for sport too – bright and sunny, if a bit chilly. I did speak to Carol the manager of the five-a-side football centre. She explained that the area is public space and she welcomed me taking pictures for the scholarship. Carol told me that Mondays and Thursdays are the busiest times, so I’ll be back – both in the daytime and when it’s flood lit in the evenings. After taking some pictures of the pitches I walked over to Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre. The centre offers a range of facilities which include a 400m running track and a 60m indoor track. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the centre is home to Bolton United Harriers Athletic Club. The club has around five hundred members from age six and above. Arrangements are currently being made to allow me to photograph the club’s training sessions and other activities. Bolton 5km parkrun takes place every Saturday starting on the running track – I’ll be back to photograph that too.
