Passion for Pentecost was staged at Victoria Hall on Sunday 19th May. This event saw many denominations of the Christian faith come together to celebrate the ‘holy spirit’. Stage performances included The Millennium Gospel Choir, BL3 band and a three part drama about pentecost. There was lots of singing and audience participation! I am an atheist but I’m always interested in how and why people choose religion as a way of life. Initially I felt quite self-concious whilst photographing this event. This was because of the intrusive nature of photography but also because of the fact that I did not subscribe to the audiences religious beliefs. I quickly became relaxed though because everyone seemed to be accepting of what I was doing and they were more occupied with the event itself. I recall that there were a number of important social issues that were being raised during various performances, homelessness, substance mis-use, etc. The event was broadcast live on 96.5 Bolton FM.
