On Saturday 1st June Egerton played Tonge in the Bolton Cricket League. A big thank you goes out to Merv Porter at Bolton le Moors Rotary Club for recommending this event and for introducing me to the club secretary. What a gorgeous day! The location is very picturesque – very green, on the outskirts of Bolton looking out over hills from Egerton to Shooterslee Wood. The weather was glorious – for the most part! The game itself was very well supported, I guess there were around 100 spectators. Although there were a large number of people the event still felt very local and intimate so I spent the first hour introducing myself (and my intentions) to everyone. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was very jovial and laid-back. It was a real pleasure listening to people’s stories, photographing them and occasionally watching the game. That afternoon I realised the attraction of watching the cricket in the sunshine whilst sharing a cold beer with friends – it’s on my ‘to-do’ list! The score: Egerton 6-0 Tonge / Egerton 146 all out / Tonge 114 all out.
